Tableau Next is a modern, AI-powered analytics platform that helps you turn any type of data into clear, actionable insights. It is designed to be flexible, composable, and ready for the future of analytics.
With Tableau Next, admins can connect data from multiple sources, apply intelligence using AI, and deliver meaningful insights to business users — faster and smarter.
What You Need to Get Started
Before setting up Tableau Next, make sure the following are in place:
- Data 360 — This is required to manage, connect, and govern your data.
Note : Data Cloud has been rebranded to Data 360 - Data 360 Semantic Layer — This layer helps define common business metrics and ensures everyone sees the same, trusted data across analytics.
- Tableau Next is available in Lightning Experience.
- Tableau Next is available in Enterprise , Performance & Unlimited Edition with Data 360.

- Set Up Data 360 for Tableau Next
Data 360 is the foundation of Tableau Next. It manages your data connections and ensures data is secure, governed, and ready for analytics.
2. Create the Semantic Layer
The Semantic Layer defines business metrics and logic in one place. This ensures everyone across the organization sees the same numbers and trusted data when using Tableau Next.
3. Create the Tableau Next Admin
Assign a dedicated admin role for Tableau Next. This admin is responsible for managing settings, access, and overall governance of the platform.
4. Enable Tableau Next
Once the above steps are completed, enable Tableau Next in your org. This activates the platform and makes it ready for user access.
Step 2: Provision Users for Tableau Next
After Tableau Next is enabled, the next step is to give users access.
Assign a Tableau Next Permission Set
To allow users to use Tableau Next, assign them the appropriate Tableau Next Permission Set. This defines what features and data the user can access.
