Tableau Next depends on Data 360 for both data ingestion and data queries, which means it cannot function properly without it. So before you begin configuring Tableau Next, you must first prepare Data 360 in your organization.

Data 360: Accessing & Setting up an Org for the first time
Step 1: Configure Data 360 in Your Org
Before enabling Tableau Next, make sure:
- Data 360 is properly enabled in your org
- Required permissions are assigned
- Data ingestion pipelines are configured
This ensures your system is ready to collect and process data.
Step 2: Create a Data Model Object (DMO)
Once Data 360 is configured, the next step is to create a Data Model Object (DMO).
A Data Model Object helps you:
- Define how your data is structured
- Organize fields and relationships
- Prepare datasets for querying
- Connect structured data to Tableau Next
Think of the DMO as the blueprint that tells Tableau Next how to understand your data.
Step 3: Connect Tableau Next
After:
✔. Data 360 is configured
✔ Data Model Object is created
User Permissions Required to Set Up Data 360 for Tableau Next
To successfully configure Data 360 and enable Tableau Next, the right user permissions are very important.
Without proper access, you won’t be able to configure data ingestion, create data models, or manage provisioning.
How to Enable Tableau Next in Salesforce
Before you start using Tableau Next, you must ensure that the correct permissions are assigned and the feature is enabled in Salesforce Setup.
🔐 Required Permission : To enable Tableau Next, the user must have:
✅ Tableau Next Admin permission set
Without this permission set, you won’t be able to access or configure Tableau Next settings.
Make sure the permission set is assigned to your user profile before proceeding.
⚙️ Steps to Enable Tableau Next
Follow these steps inside Salesforce:
Go to Salesforce Setup
In the Quick Find box, type: Tableau Next Setup
Select Tableau Next Setup from the results
Click Enable Tableau Next
Once enabled, Tableau Next will be available for configuration and usage in your org.
Assign a User a Tableau Next Permission Set
Assign permissions to users depending on how they will use Tableau Next features.
Add Users in Tableau Next
- Open App Launcher → Search and select Tableau Next.
- Click Administration.
- Go to User Management → Click Users.
- Click Add.
- Select Provision Existing Users.
- Choose the users (who don’t already have Tableau Next access).
- Click Next.
- Select the user(s) and click Assign Permission Set.
- Choose the required Tableau Next permission set.
- Review the details and click Add Users to complete.
Important Note About Licenses
- Every user needs one license + one permission set.
- Each permission set consumes a Tableau Next license.
- You can check your available licenses while assigning permission sets.
